It has to come from the heart. If you haven’t put a part of yourself into each video, it’s not going to honor the life it represents.
It starts when I’m scanning photos. I am looking at a picture chronicle of some ones’ life. It’s a moving experience for me. I see a glimpse of how that person lived and I try to imagine how that person would want to be portrayed. Until the photos are scanned and filed I only have a general idea of what to do with them. Once I’ve familiarized myself with the pictures then I pray that I’ll capture the life of that person and make a video montage that will be cherished.
The Process
I start by scanning and entering pictures into a file for each video to be created. After all the photos are in the file I start editing them. During this process none of your original photos will be altered. Pictures are edited for red eye, blemishes and minor repair to old photos. Many folds and tears can be fixed during this process. some photos will be colorized for consistency during the video. Black and white pictures will be colorized to make the black and white tones consistent, and sepia tones have the same process applied to them. Some black and white photos will be colorized to become sepia tone. This makes the overall video more pleasing to watch. Each picture is analyzed to see how it blends with the other pictures and whether or not colorization is the right choice for that photo.
The next step is to plan the video format. Selecting the right colors or photos for backgrounds and framing means that each picture will show in the best light. Backgrounds and frames have to be created to fit each picture. some picture slides will have as many as 10 layers to effectively display the picture. Movement is added to pictures during this time.
video clips added to the montage are edited for audio track , length and content. That sneeze the bride may have had just as she started down the aisle may be great in a video outtake, but maybe we’d rather not show it during the sentimental moment when everyone stands for her entrance. Video Outtakes are fun and can be added to your DVD.
The music is added and the video is timed to it. Audio is edited for cross fades and in and out fades. Sometimes only a portion of a soundtrack will be used.
Now I start looking at the video as a whole, making transitions between pictures/slides that match the mood of the style and individual pictures. I will generally watch a video a dozen times before I have finished making the final edits.
The final step is to publish the video in the correct format for your use.
